MCPO Charles Wayne Nodine, U.S.N. (ret.)

MCPO Charles Wayne Nodine, U.S.N. (ret.), 78, passed away Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at his residence.

He was born November 28, 1938 in Mooresboro, the husband of Mary Elizabeth "Lib" McBee Nodine and son of the late Thomas Carl Nodine and Edna Willis Nodine. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. He retired from the U.S. Navy as a Master Chief Petty Officer after 25 years of service, and was the youngest person in U.S. naval history to be promoted to Chief Petty Officer. After his naval career, he went on to retire from Cone Mills as a supervisor. He enjoyed skeet shooting, classic cars, reading, gardening and fishing.

Charles was a living example of the love of Christ. He was a thoughtful citizen and dedicated servant of his country and community. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness and compassion that will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know him.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary Elizabeth "Lib" McBee Nodine; a son, Charles Wayne Nodine, Jr. and wife Angela of Gastonia; a daughter, Tish Ramsey of Florida; and five grandchildren, Stephanie Nodine and husband Bradley Hornback of Charleston, SC; Jessica Nodine of Charlotte; Robert Gibbs of Anchorage, AK; Lauren Traster of Plano, TX; and Rebecca Charles Traster of Florida. He is preceded in death by his parents.

A funeral service will be held at 3 pm Sunday, January 15th at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church (Mooresboro) with Pastors Kevin Hamrick, Robby Hensley, and Gene Smith officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery with full military honors.
