Melissa Shelton McWhirter, 46, of Chesnee, passed away on Tuesday, October 20, 2026.

She was a loving wife, mother, and sister who is survived by her husband, Owen McWhirter; her son, Ryver Shelton; her mother, Charlotte Shelton; her stepdaughter, Paige Rosenbaum; her brothers, Scott Shelton (Heather) and Jordan Shelton (Sheri); as well as three nephews and two nieces.

She was preceded in death by her father, Rodney, whom she missed dearly and lovingly referred to herself as a "Daddy's Girl."

Melissa was a teacher by profession and touched the lives of many students throughout her career. She especially enjoyed working in special education, as a Special Education Teacher.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, October 29, 2026, at Sunset Cemetery in Shelby. The family will receive friends following the graveside service.
