Mildred Blanton

SHELBY- Mildred Blanton, 94, died June 7, 2016 at her residence. A native of Montgomery County, NC, she was the daughter of the late James and Eunice Mabry Scarboro. A volunteer for the American Red Cross, she was active in many blood drives, she worked Hurricanes Hugo and Katrina as well. She was a 1938 graduate of Shelby High School. She worked all her life and stayed busy including working as a dental assistant for Dr. Burris and a nurse for Dr. Kendall. She worked at Hamrick Jewelry Store and Bill Blanton Jewelry Store. She was a former member of First Baptist Church in Shelby, and currently a member at Westview Baptist Church. In her life she met many people, helped countless people and was loved by everyone who knew her. She was a loving mother, grandmother and very special friend.

PRECEDED: in addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her former husband, Joe E. Blanton; one great granddaughter, Megan Sanders; one brother, James Scarboro.

SURVIVED: She is survived by her son, Richard Blanton and wife Linda M. of Shelby; one brother, Guy Ramsaur and wife Juanita of Iron Station, NC; one granddaughter, Ashley Blanton Sanders; four great grandchildren, Coleman, Billy, Leah, and James Sanders.

SERVICES: A memorial service will be held Friday at 2:00 pm at Westview Baptist Church. The family will greet friends after the service in the vestibule of the church as attendees leave.

MEMORIALS: At the request of Mildred, in lieu of flowers her wishes was to donate whatever you would spend on flowers to American Red Cross, 1333 Fallston Rd, Shelby, NC 28150 or https://www.redcross.org/donate/donation where she volunteered for over 30 years, her wishes was not to have flowers at her service, American Red Cross donations only.
