Mildred Cobb Agner

Mrs. Mildred Cobb Agner, age 90 of Hawthorne St. passed away Thursday, January 31, 2019 at Trinity Oaks Health and Rehab in Salisbury, NC. She was born September 15, 1928 in Gaston County to the late Rev. William Gurley and Emma Lillian Akard Cobb. She was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church, where she was active in the fellowship club, choir member for 75 years, and former director of the children's choir for many years. She also enjoyed cooking for church activities. Mrs. Agner was a homemaker extraordinaire who loved to take care of her family. She was a member of the Cherryville Music Club, Gaston County Medical Auxillary, and WELCA. She had a passion for traveling, boating, and fishing. Mrs. Agner also enjoyed playing bridge and visiting with her friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her great grandson, Ned Dellinger; and siblings, Mary Emma Mauney, Louise Beam West, Rev. James Cobb, Rev. Dr. J.W. Cobb, and Elizabeth Moser.

Survivors include her husband of 69 years, Dr. Marshal E. Agner; children, Marsha A. Keeter (Morris Keeter), Marie A. Ferguson (Bob Ferguson), Linda Alexander (Billy Alexander), Douglas Agner (Teresa Veeder Agner), Teresa A. Madison (Dr. Chris Madison), and Dr. David Agner (Sally Beam Agner); sister, Frances Powell; sister-in-law, Ellen Cobb; grandchildren, Brent Keeter, Robert Ferguson II (Jessica), Andy Ferguson (Hope), Emily Bumgardner (Thomas), Travis Dellinger (Betsy), Alan Dellinger (Emily), Danielle Smith (Robert), Haley Alexander, Dr. Brooke Christian (Clayton), Ben Agner, Betsy Agner, Stephanie Schenck (Andrew), Erika Ricker (Jason), Michael Madison (Lacey), Rebecca Agner, Laura Agner, and Kevin Agner; great grandchildren, Lydia, Miles, Savannah, Hunter, Catherine, Caroline, Meredith, Jack, Rowen, Reese, Ada, Maggie, Joel, Harper, Ella, Elizabeth, Arlo, and Rhett; special caregiver, Leatha Collins; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 3, 2019 at 3:00 PM at St. John's Lutheran Church, Cherryville with Rev. Ben Kifer officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 1:45 to 2:45 PM prior to the service in the Saint's Hall at the church and at other times at Linda Alexander's, 201 Karen Court.
