Miles Arthur "Pop" Gantt

Cherryville - Mr. Miles Arthur "Pop" Gantt, 97, of Cherryville passed away on December 19, at his residence.

Miles was born on December 31, 1922 in Crouse, NC to the late James Austin and Docia Bridges Gantt. Miles enjoyed gardening and woodworking. He experienced so much in life. Words can't express how much he meant to his family and friends. He was faithful to the Lord and to his family to the very end and we will see him again in Heaven. The example of hard work, faithfulness, dedication and Godliness that he portrayed is something to aspire. He was a decorated World War II veteran landing on the beaches of Normandy and was in the Battle of the Bulge.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Hazel Mauney Gantt, daughter Shirley Gantt Hines, a great-grandson Trent Gardo, siblings Houston, Leonard, Ed, Marshall and Cleat Gantt.

He is survived by his son Jerry Gantt and wife Lisa of Lincolnton and daughter Brenda Gantt of Cherryville. He is also survived by a son-in-law, John Hines of Cherryville; 5 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and 1 great -great granddaughter. Special people in his life were his grandson, Jeff Hines, granddaughter, Teresa Gardo, nephew Steve and wife Patty Gantt and his daughter Donna.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday December 23, 2020 at 2:00 pm at Cherryville City Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. Jerry Lail officiating.

Military Honors will be provided by Cherryville American Legion Post 100 Honor Guard.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions face coverings and social distancing will be observed.

Memorials may be made in lieu of flowers to Shriners Hospital for Children 2900 Rocky Point
