Myrna Lee Hollifield

Myrna Lee Hollifield,84,passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 9, 2023 at Willow Ridge Rehabilitation, with her loving family around her.

She was born in Hackettstown, New Jersey on January 22,1939. As an adult, she lived in Goshen, New York and Patterson, New Jersey before moving to Boiling Springs, North Carolina in 1972. She later moved to the Lawndale area, and finally to Fallston, North Carolina.

She is predeceased by her loving parents, Charles and Renee Draper, her son, Steven Youngster, and daughter, Lenora Hollifield Evans.

Left to cherish her memories are her children: her daughter and son-in-law, Noreen and Ronald Bowen; son, Brian Hollifield and partner, Amy, and her son and daughter-in-law, Joshua and Victoria Hollifield; her grandchildren: Paul and Brittany Bowen; Tyler Bowen; Amanda and Daniel Simmons; Amber and Zachary Boone; Amy Bowen and fiance' Diego Cruz; Michael and Joy Hollifield; two great-grandchildren, Layla and Ezra Bowen; sister and brother-in-law, Lorraine and Ken Simons; several nieces and nephews, and special friends, Joyce Falls and Sue Dawson.

Myrna was a faithful member of Zion Baptist Church from 1976 until her health prevented her from attending. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, watching The Golden Girls, and going to yard sales. She loved Johnny Cash from the time he began recording music, and was thrilled in the late1960's to get to meet him in person and had several prized autographed items from him.

She always looked forward to her grandchildren coming to make Christmas cookies, even though she always insisted on baking them to a crisp. Her grandchildren all have very fond memories of eating hotdogs, macaroni and cheese, and then burning Christmas cookies; it was a yearly tradition shared by Nana and her "grands!!"

She was always willing to help others anyway she could, and for many years she took care of elder friends and family. God and her family were always the most important things to her, and she shared her gift of hospitality and home well into her 70's. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

The family would like to thank Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, and especially her nurse, Michaela, for the kind attention and care of Myrna.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Myrna's honor to Hospice.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, November 13, 2023 at Zion Baptist Church, 525 West Zion Church Road Shelby, NC 28150. Visitation will be held 2 hours prior to the service. Burial will be immediately following the service in the Church Cemetery.
