Nancy Jane McCraw Matheney, age 89, passed away Sunday, May 23, 2021 at Hospice Wendover House in Shelby.
Born in Cleveland County on January 24, 1932 she was the daughter of the late Rush Dewey and Belvie Cobb McCraw.
Nancy was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church where she was involved in a number of Bible study groups and Sunday school classes. She was a faithful member and past officer of the local chapter of the PEO organization, which celebrates the advancement of women through scholarships and grants to motivate them to achieve their highest aspirations. She enjoyed fellowship, playing Rook and Bridge with longtime friends, devoted her time at the Senior Center in Shelby and cherished cooking for her family, friends and neighbors.
In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by her brother Lewis Edward McCraw.
Nancy is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Gene Matheney, her three children, Patti Matheney and husband Michael Schrom of Ghent, NY, David and wife Kim Matheney of Mooresboro, NC, Gina and husband Billy Fredell of Shelby, NC. 7 Grandchildren, Christopher Reeves of Shelby, NC, Will Fredell of Gastonia, NC, Cody Matheney of Denver, CO, Tyler Reeves of Shelby, NC, Luke Matheney of Brooklyn, NY, Cory and wife Courtney Fredell of Kings Mountain, NC. Six great-grandchildren, Jadie, Wren, Aubree, Austin, Britney, and Brianna.
In addition to her immediate family, Susan Grose and Leander street neighbors were special friends of the family.
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00am Friday, May 28th, 2021 at First Baptist Church in Shelby, NC with Rev. Tony Tench and Dr. Robert Canoy officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10:00am-11:00am in the Church sanctuary. Burial will follow the service in Sunset Cemetery. The family will also welcome friends at the home Thursday May 27thafter 5:30pm.
