Nature Day Is Sept. 25th
Ralph Silvers with his horse & wagon, provides rides for visitors.
 Build a bluebird house to take home.  Learn how to care for injured wildlife.  See lots of snakes.  Take a horse & wagon ride.   Listen to Appalachian music.  South Mountains State Park will host the 8th Annual Nature Day on September 25th from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m.  A variety of programs, exhibits and music will be presented throughout the day.

Music is scheduled at the park picnic pavilion from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m.  Richard Beard and Sassafras Tea will entertain you with Southern Appalachian music.  Tim and Faith Ingle and the “Heartstrings” musicians will follow with sounds of bluegrass gospel music.   Michael Fox and his Possum Holler Ole Time String Band will put a smile on your face and music in your heart.


The popular Build a Bird House Program will be held at the old park officer.  Space is limited to 50 people.  Sign up early!  Bat houses will also be given away.  


Curtis Smalling from the North Carolina Audubon Society will lead a bird hike at 1:00 p.m. and present a program on birds at 2:30 p.m. at the park visitor center.    


Exhibits will be displayed at the Jacob Fork Parking Area.  Exhibits include Caring for Injured Wildlife, USDA Wildlife Exhibit, Animals of NC, What’s in the Water,  Beekeeping, the Snakes of North Carolina, Backpacking & Dutch Oven Cooking,  Rocky River Trout Unlimited, Bats, Birds of Prey, Astronomy, Tuttle Educational Forest, the Foothills Conservancy,  Catawba Science Center and Grandfather Mountain.


Children’s activities are scheduled through the day.  The Nature Day Obstacle Course, Making Animal Tracks, Nature Arts & Crafts will entertain and educate the little people.  Free horse and wagon rides will also be available “round the barn.”


Food and beverages will be available for purchase from the Enola Volunteer Fire Department.  Door prizes will be given away at 3:00 at the picnic pavilion.
