New NC School Bus law now in effect

Beginning Jan. 4, 2016 students in North Carolina will have to obey their bus driver's hand signal before they get on the bus safely.
A new law requires bus drivers hold their hands palm out until it's safe for a child to cross. Then they'll give a thumbs-up and point in the direction the child should cross.
Statewide, 13 students have died since 1999 while getting on or off a school bus.
