Norma Jean Farmer Cabaniss

Norma Jean Farmer Cabaniss, age 90 died Saturday, October 6, 2018 at her home. Born in Bluefield, West Virginia on June 5, 1928 she was the daughter of the late Wayne Washington and Blanche Elizabeth Peters Farmer. Norma Jean was true matriarch who loved life and enjoyed it fully with family, friends and lots of laughter. She was a devoted member of First Baptist Church, where she was a former Sunday school teacher and served on various committees. She was an active member of the Shelby Women's Club and Cleveland Country Club, where she developed her love for golf. She won the CCC Women's Championship for golfing in 1980 and several other tournaments. She enjoyed traveling the country on annual golf trips with her husband Joe and their close friends. As a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, she found joy bringing her family together with cooking, entertaining and worldly travel. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Joseph E. Cabaniss; two brothers, Buddy Farmer and Ralph Farmer.

Norma is survived by two sons, Joseph "Joey" Edwin Cabaniss, Jr. of Tryon and David Wayne Cabaniss of Charlotte; daughter, Karen Cabaniss Hall and husband George of Shelby; grandchildren, Becky Hall Berry and husband Jeff, Lucy Hall McDaniel and husband Trevor, Patty Hall Cykert and husband David, Katelyn Cabaniss; great grandchildren, William Hall McDaniel, Catherine McDaniel, Harrison McDaniel, and Jackson Short.

Funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm at First Baptist Church on Tuesday October 9, 2018 with Dr. Robert Canoy officiating. Burial will follow at Zion Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends an hour before the service from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm in the Sanctuary.
