North Shelby Students Conduct Litter Sweep
On a cold and windy Wednesday morning, March 26th, a group of nine North Shelby Students volunteered to conduct a litter sweep over a portion of West Marion Street.
These students have been studying in Mrs. Christa Wilson’s class about the terrible effects that litter can have on a community. So, these students wanted to help make a difference in Shelby by conducting a litter sweep. They picked up bottles of glass, plastic and aluminum, cigarette butts and other types of litter carelessly tossed out of vehicles or dropped by pedestrians. In about an hour, these dedicated students picked up over 100 pounds of litter.
These student-volunteers who showed dedication and responsibility to help the community by their service were: Junior Mickles, Dylan Mauney, Wesley Dowdle, Ryan Wooten, Taylor Dotson, John David Parker, Summer Patterson, Thomas Stroud and Qua Surratt.
Keep Shelby Beautiful knows that clean communities are not just nice to look at – they are economically vibrant places where people want to live, work, shop and play. Volunteer service is an important way that anyone can contribute to improving the quality of life in the community.
