Mrs. Ola Belle Thomas Hammond, 95, of Shelby Manor, Shelby, NC, passed away Friday, June 4, 2010. Services were held at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Cleveland Memorial Park.
Mrs. Hammond was preceded in death by her husband, J.C. “Jake” Hammond; her parents, Melvin Alonzo Thomas and Ina Beatty Thomas; 4 brothers, Herman, B.C., J.D., and W.C. Thomas; and 2 sisters, Lila Whisnant and Mary Lou Thomas.
She is survived by 2 sons, Thomas Hammond and wife Gayla of Shelby, and Roger Hammond and wife Lucille of Lincolnton; 2 daughters, Peggy Davis and husband C.L. of Belwood, and Betty Howie and husband J.G. of Polkville; 2 sisters, Hazel Dean Greene and husband LLoyd of N. Augusta, Georgia and Bobbi Hastings of Boiling Springs; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Eastside Baptist Church Building Fund, 1165 Wyke Road, Shelby, NC 28150; or to: Hospice Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Dr., Shelby, NC 28150.
