Ola Megruta Grindstaff Shockey, age 84, passed away Sunday January 23, 2022, at Atrium Healthcare in Shelby, NC.

Born in Gaston County on October 23, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Isaac and Grace Grindstaff. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brothers J.B., Hubert, and Bobby Grindstaff and sisters, Lula Cook, Ida Belle Mills, and Audrey O'Donahue. Ola was a longtime member of Elizabeth Baptist Church in Shelby, she loved to bake, travel, and spend time with her grandchildren.

Ola is survived by her husband of more than 26 years, David Michael Shockey, her children, Mark Dean Gilliland of Shelby, Marian Gilliland Price (Alfred, Jr.) of Shelby, Timothy Andrew Gilliland (Donna Runyon) of Polkville, NC, Debra Jean Marciano of Bradenton, FL, Michael David Shockey of Lakeland, FL, Steven Allen Shockey of Lakeland, FL, and Sue Ann Perkins of Gastonia, NC. Ola is also survived by her numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Graveside service will be held 2:00pm Thursday January 27, 2022 at the cemetery of Elizabeth Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Rit Varriale officiating the service. The family will receive friends following the graveside service.
