Ophelia Bartee McCraw

Ophelia Bartee McCraw, 95, of 2716 Bailey Road, died peacefully on Monday, July 10, 2023 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home, surrounded by her family after a short illness.

Born in Cleveland County, NC, she was the widow of the late Elwyn Fred McCraw to whom she was married for 69 years, and the daughter of the late John A. Bartee and Maggie McCraw Bartee. She attended Boiling Springs High School in North Carolina, retired from Cone Mills in Cliffside, NC, and a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star, Cliffside Chapter. Mrs. McCraw was the oldest member of Lavonia Baptist Church at her death. She formerly served at her Church as a Sunday School teacher, choir member, WMU president and Training Union director. She loved her family, flowers, gardening, collecting owl figurines, painting ceramics, cooking (famous for her German Chocolate cake), word jumbles and wordsearch puzzles. She was a collector of Bob Timberlake paintings, an avid reader, and enjoyed camping at Maggie Valley and the Outer Banks. She also loved fishing, flea markets, yard sales, auctions, country music, traveling and spending time with special friends. She loved doing special things for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She always remembered everyone's birthday.

She is survived by a son, Roger McCraw (Pat) of Mooresboro, NC; two daughters, Linda Petty of Gaffney and Ginger Burleson (Scott) of Mooresboro; five grandchildren, Dale Petty, Leslie Bryant (Robin), Lisa Hagler (James), Lee McCraw (Kim) and Kristen McAbee (Rodney); eleven great-grandchildren, Madison Petty, Hollie Petty, Cameron Hagler, Corey Hagler, Callan Hagler, Brady Hamrick, Mabry Hamrick, Addie McCraw, Cooper McCraw, Jase McCraw and Reid McCraw; two great-great grandchildren, Kyndall & Kynslee High. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Richard Petty, a daughter-in-law, Jane McCraw, a son-in-law, Larry Petty, two brothers, Horace Bartee and Johnnie Ray Bartee, and two sisters, Velia Humphries and Doris Matheny.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM on Thursday, July 13, 2023 at Lavonia Baptist Church. Funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM at the Church with Reverend Tripp Biggerstaff and Reverend David Slatton officiating. Interment will be in the Lavonia Baptist Church Cemetery.
