Otha Bridges

Otha Bridges, 95, died Monday, August 30,2021 at White Oak Manor of Shelby.

He was born in Rutherford County to the late Alonzo and Alpha Mae Bridges.

Otha served his country during World War II in the US Army.

He worked for the NC Department of Transportation as a Maintenance Supervisor for 40 years and 10 months. He was a long-time member of Lafayette Street United Methodist Church. He enjoyed baking, cooking, wood working, gardening and tending to his flowers. He loved his canine companions Sophie and Cesar.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Selma Bridges; brother, Reno Bridges; and great grandson, Jordin Hamrick. He is survived by his son, Wayne Bridges and wife Debbie of Lattimore; daughter, Edith Deaton and husband Robert of Shelby; grandchildren, Jeremy Bridges and wife Laura, Anna Swink and husband Eli, Ashley Kee and husband David, Matthew Deaton and wife Kelly; great grandchildren, Jake Bridges, Jacob Hamrick, Jayden Swink, Carter Kee, Carsyn Kee, Harrison Deaton, Charlie Kee, and Hudson Deaton.

Funeral services will be held 3pm, Wednesday, September 1,2021 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Don Mason officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Sunset Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Sandy Plains Baptist Church or Flint Hill Baptist Church.
