Outdoor Truths: Aiming Outdoorsmen Toward Christ Feb. 14th
One of the wildlife success stories in my area is the reintroduction of the elk. While Tennessee is coming along more slowly, Kentucky now has a heard of over 10,000 and last year over 800 tags were issued to hunters. And there is over a 90% success rate for those hunters. Today Kentucky has the largest elk herd east of the Rocky Mountains. Now that is what I call success. And what makes this even more amazing to me is the fact that this reintroduction took place less than 15 years ago.
A few weeks ago, I had the privilege of helping to guide a friend in harvesting a big healthy cow. This was a first for me and him. It was an unbelievable experience and one that has excited me for the possibilities of next year. This whole story is one that I never imagined I would be able to share in my lifetime – hunting elk in Kentucky and Tennessee. Remarkable!
Again, perhaps the most amazing part of this story is how quickly this turnaround took place. There were none and then 15 years later there were 10,000. I can imagine how many skeptics must have decried this possibility. I can imagine how even the most optimistic must now admit to the fact that this success exceeded their estimations. All in all, it was an unexpected and an unbelievable transformation.
Even as I write this, my mind is immediately taken to things far more important than elk. It is taken to my life and yours. It is taken to how quickly God can transform a life. It is taken to thoughts of unbelievable turnarounds and transformations; ones that sometimes we think are impossible. Perhaps you are wallowing right now in a seemingly hopeless situation. Or you may be looking at a friend or family member and using phrases like ‘impossible’ or ‘too late.’ The truth is, God not only can redeem but He can restore. He can not only restore but He can replenish. And the amazing thing is that He can do it far quicker than we can imagine. In Kentucky there were once elk in the past, so the biologists knew if the environment could be reestablished, the elk could thrive. They were right and success followed.
Don’t allow anyone – even yourself- to think it’s too late. If God can speak and create a universe, He will have no problem restoring and replenishing all that sin and circumstances have taken away from you. He may just be reestablishing the environment in your life right now for unbelievable blessings in the future.
