Over 1,300 Pounds of litter picked up by volunteers!
Recently 50 associates from the Wal-Mart Distribution Center (WDC) #6070 volunteered to help keep Shelby beautiful by conducting several litter sweeps throughout the area. They concentrated their efforts on removing litter from some of the major entryways into Shelby. These areas included South Dekalb Street and Highway 226.
These major entryways accumulate a lot of litter that passing motorists and pedestrians carelessly discard on the ground. The volunteers from WDC #6070 collected over 1,300 pounds of litter and recyclables during their sweeps. These volunteers showed a lot of love for the community by their service.
Keep Shelby Beautiful knows that clean communities are not just nice to look at – they are economically vibrant places where people want to live, work, shop and play. Service to the community is the ultimate declaration of love for where you live and for the people you share it with. Volunteer service is an important way that anyone can contribute to improving the quality of life in the community.
