Patricia Scully Wilkison

Patricia Scully Wilkison, aged 90, passed away on December 2, 2024, in Shelby, NC.

Born on March 14, 1934, in Nutley Township, NJ, Pat led a life marked by enthusiasm, love, and dedication to her community and family.

Pat graduated from Nutley Senior High and pursued further education at Douglass College, majoring in Math, and then at Queens University, where she earned a master's degree in Library Science. Her academic pursuits led her to a fulfilling career as a librarian at Shelby Junior High and Jefferson School, as well as a women's tennis coach at Gardner-Webb College.

A resident of Shelby for 56 years, Pat and her husband, David, were active members of the Shelby Presbyterian Church since 1969. They shared a passion for various activities, including golf, tennis, and especially birding--a hobby that took them on many adventures across North Carolina. Pat's love for the outdoors was evident in her dedication to gardening and taking long walks, particularly along the Thread Trail on the First Broad River.

Pat's personal life was rich with relationships. She is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, David; her brothers, Bob, John, and Tom Scully; and her children, Tim (Vicky), Andy (Cathy), and Bonnie Miller (Michael). Her legacy continues through her eight grandchildren--Hannah, MacLane, Sarah Beth, John, Cole, Mary Catherine, Aaron, and Victoria (Tory)--and eight great-grandchildren--Thomas, Peter, Valentina, Wes, Daniel (Wilkes), Dean, Sybil, and John Mathers. She was predeceased by her parents, Albert and Elizabeth Scully; her brother, Albert Scully; and her sister, Mary Connelley.

A private family service will be held in the future. Those wishing to honor Pat's memory can make contributions to The National Audubon Society, reflecting her love for birds and nature.
