Polly Ann Lee Fite

Mrs. Polly Ann Lee Fite, 78 of Lattimore, passed away Thursday, May 4, 2017 at Wendover Hospice House. Her death was very peaceful, as she was surrounded by her beloved family reminiscing about precious memories and assuring her that she was much loved and that she instilled in them many lessons that would last a lifetime.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Jim Fite of the home, a son, Steve Fite and wife JoAnn of Shelby, NC, a daughter-in-law, Ann White of Shelby, NC, four grandchildren, Janna Huffman and husband Robbie, Kayla Huss and husband Nathan, Jason Fite and wife Raven, and Ethan Fite and wife Monica, all of Shelby, NC, two great grandchildren, Abigail and Emma Huss, a brother, Jimmy Lee of Raleigh, NC, numerous nieces and nephews, and many beloved friends.
Born March 28, 1939 in Stanly County, Mrs. Fite was the daughter of the late Eddie and Nelia Burris Lee and was preceded in death by a son, Scott Walter Fite.
Polly grew up in Frog Pond, North Carolina, and graduated from Oakboro High School. She then received her Associate Degree from Wingate College and both her Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Education from Appalachian State University. She taught in Cleveland County Schools for over 30 years, inspiring and touching the lives of many students and fellow teachers. Polly was a beloved member of Lattimore Baptist Church, and she was very active in the church's adult choir, handbell choir, and Happy Hearts. She was also a charter member of the Lattimore Historical Society and took much pride in the Lattimore Historical Museum. Polly was an adventurer at heart and loved traveling around the world with her husband, family, and friends. She also enjoyed her daily outings and always saw a familiar face wherever she went.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 pm Sunday, May 7, 2017 at Lattimore Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Jim Richardson and Rev. Billy Cooper. A visitation will be held from 2:00 - 4:00 pm prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
