Rachel Bridges Melton

Rachel Bridges Melton, 75, of 245 Lawhon Street, Shelby, NC, passed away Saturday, November 11, 2017 at her home. Rachel was a native of Cleveland County, and the wife of the late Joseph E. Melton of Ellenboro. She is also preceded in death by her parents, the late Hamar Carl Bridges and Evelyn Canipe Bridges of Shelby, and brother Donald Bridges, also of Shelby.

Rachel is survived by her two sons Chris Wray and his wife Pamela and Jeff Wray and his wife Tracie, both of Boiling Springs; six grandchildren, Caleb Wray and his wife Brittany of Shelby, Kendra Appling and her husband Luke of Shelby, Cameron Wray of Boiling Springs, Kenslee Edwards and her husband Adam of Mooresboro, Megan Self and her husband Alex of Shelby, and Amber Wray of Boiling Springs; four great-grandchildren, Colton Appling and Karis Appling of Shelby, Bella Edwards and Adalee Edwards of Mooresboro one brother, Bill and his wife Brenda of Shelby, and two sisters, Sarah Bridges and Teresa Bridges of Gastonia. Also, left to cherish her memory are two step-sons, Bryan Melton and his wife Darlene and Lynn Melton and his wife Sherry of Forest City; three step-daughters, Norma Kay Whiteside and her husband Clyde of Forest City, Sonja Bradbury, Jr. and her husband Robert of Ellenboro and Melinda Stephens and her husband Randy of Cliffside; and a host of other family and friends.

The family will receive friends Sunday, November 19th from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at Cecil Burton Funeral Home and Crematory. To celebrate "Nanny's" life, the family will have a private graveside service at 4:00 p.m. at Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery, 767 Pinehurst Road, Ellenboro, NC.
