Rachel Joan Whisnant

Rachel Joan Whisnant, age 80, of Henrietta, entered her Heavenly home Thursday, May 15, 2025.

Rachel was born on Sunday, November 5, 1944 in Rutherford County to the late Frank Lail and Rosa Mae Rodgers Lail. She worked at Cone and Caroleen Mills for many years. Rachel was the "neighborhood mom" who was loved by everyone. She was always helping and caring for others. To her being family was not all about being blood related but was about being "love" related. She was a caring, selfless and dedicated homemaker who always put everyone's needs before her own. Rachel was a cherished mom and grandma. Most everyone affectionately called her Moma or MawMaw. Everyone who knew her always felt like family and while in the hospital the nursing staff even called her MawMaw. During Christmas, she even made sure that the grand fur babies had a gift like everyone else. She loved Jesus, yellow roses, banana milkshakes, going out to eat, family time get-togethers and especially her grandbabies. Rachel was a lifelong and faithful member of Goodes Grove Baptist Church until her medical issues kept her homebound.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-six years, William Donald Whisnant; siblings, William Lail, Lucille Moore, Reba Poteat, Martha Jean Kelly, Jerry Lail and Frankie Lail.

Those left to cherish her memory include two daughters, Donna Yelton (Bruce) of Rutherfordton and Sandra Ledford (Scott) of Henrietta; grandchildren, Kendell Cox (Robert), Robyn Harrison (Steven), Kristen Walker, Braydon Yelton; great grandchildren, Seth Greene, Aniston Cox, Addison Walker, Jaxton Walker, Rylie Walker, Blake Harrison, Andres Sanchez; her best friend and sidekick, Margo Gunnin; Scott Campbell who she called her son and an awesome caregiver to her; Beulah Gaffney, who was the best neighbor and true family for fifty years and many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

In honor of her wishes, no formal services will be conducted.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Julia Roos, Dr. Gina Merritt, Kimberly Roberts FNP-C and the caring and compassionate staff at Hospice for the love shown to Rachel.

Harrelson Funeral and Cremation Services has been entrusted with arrangements.
