Ralph William Dixon, Sr.

Ralph William Dixon, Sr., 90, of Shelby, passed away Sunday, November 11,
2018, at his home.

Born in Cleveland County on November 13, 1927, he was a son of the late Paul
Allen Dixon, Sr. and Novella Patience Spangler Dixon.

For eight years, Ralph played baseball for the Chicago Cubs Organization up
and down the East coast. He was later inducted into the Cleveland County
Sports Hall of Fame.

After completing his baseball career, Ralph joined his father and
grandfather at W.J. Dixon & Sons in Fallston. He later worked with Olympic
School Plan and Dixon Sales until his retirement. He was a very active
member of Fallston Baptist Church, having served as a deacon, as RA leader,
and on numerous committees. He was a World War II veteran having served in
the US Merchant Marines.

He was very involved with his community as a Fallston Town Council member
and mayor. He also served on the Fallston Community Volunteer Fire
Department Board of Directors, Cleveland Community College Board of
Trustees, and Cleveland County Planning Board.

Ralph was also involved with the Fallston Lions Club, NC American Legion,
and was a member of the Fallston Masonic Lodge for over sixty years.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of sixty-one
years, Sybil Jacqueline Yelton Dixon; daughter-in-law, Robbie Warlick Dixon;
and a great-grandson, Nathaniel Paul Dixon.

He is survived by his son, Ralph "Scoot" Dixon, Jr. and wife Myra of Boiling
Springs; daughter, Sherry Nappier and husband Randy of Atlanta, GA; brother,
Allen Dixon and wife Linda of Kings Mountain; three grandchildren,
Christopher Dixon and wife Farrah, Heather Dixon Wolking and husband Alan,
and Zachary Nappier; four great-grandchildren Campbell Dixon, Kenan Dixon,
Kate Wolking and Will Wolking.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 PM Thursday, November 15, 2018, at
Fallston Baptist Church with the Revs. David Blanton and John Bridges
officiating.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the
church fellowship hall.
