Ray Dennis Cook

Ray Dennis Cook, 77, went to his Heavenly home on February 6, 2021 at Carolina Health and Rehabilitation, Cherryville NC.

Born in Cleveland County, on March 7, 1943, he was the son of the late Cleatus and Wilma Cook of Lawndale. On February 29th, 1966, he married Linda Bradshaw. After serving two years in the US Army during the Vietnam era, Ray returned home to his wife where they picked up their lives again. He received an Associate Degree from Cleveland Community College after Army life. He worked with several construction companies and later he went to work with the NC Dept. of Corrections where he retired after 27 years as Program Supervisor with the department.

Ray loved to travel with his wife and friends. He and Linda enjoyed visiting Gatlinburg and Myrtle Beach several times a year. He had a very close relationship with a special Army buddy, Alfred Terry from Pikeville, TN. Ray and Linda visited the Terry's at Memorial Day and Labor Day. Labor Day was also the beginning of Dove season, and Ray loved to hunt doves with Alfred on his farm. He loved to play golf with his friends and neighbors: Steve, Sylvia and Chris Boyles and friends from his church. Ray was a member of Polkville Baptist Church and served as a Deacon, on the Building and Grounds Committee, and he enjoyed helping those in need and helping with Rodeo Polkville.

In addition to his parents Mr. Cook is preceded in death by his sisters, Maxine Taylor and Ruth Chapman; nephews, David and Jody Cook. Brothers-in-law, Parksie Chapman, Carroll Taylor and M.L. Ledford.

Mr. Cook is survived by his wife Linda Bradshaw Cook of fifty-six years, sisters, Lucille Canipe (Ray), Faye Ledford; sister- in- law Norma Brittain (Steve). Mr. Cook is survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins whom he loved dearly.

Mr Cook will lie in repose on Monday from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Stamey-Tysinger Funeral Home, Fallston.

A graveside service will be held on Monday at 3:00 PM at Rose Hill Memorial Park with the Rev. Will Davis officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Polkville Baptist Church, P.O. Box 245, Polkville NC 28136.
