Ray Hurley Retires After 32 Years
Ray and Ann Hurley are pictured with their daughter Megan Dezendorf and her husband Kent (left) and son Shawn Hurley and his wife Cathy (right) amongst their many grandkids.
If you ever approached Ray Hurley, former Executive Director of the Boys & Girls Club of Cleveland County, about doing a story about him, he would say “no”! That was always his standard answer. Even as he retired, after thirty-two years of dedicated service, this man who directed and helped several thousands of kids at the Cleveland County Boys & Girls Club, still said “no thanks”. He wanted no stories to be written about him, just his kids. He was and is still very unpretentious when it comes to getting any credit or telling his story. He eternally felt that he was just doing his job. His humility is, perhaps, what makes Ray Hurley so great and so beloved.
So excuse us Ray, but we feel very obligated to let some of those thousands of kids you helped know that you’ve retired and where you are. If it was “just a job” you sure did a great one, but on behalf of those kids you directed and loved for thirty-two years, may we just say, “thank you and God Bless”.
