Reverend Gene Wilson
Reverend Gene Wilson, age 74, of Mill Spring, passed away Sunday, July 9, 2017 at the Hospice House of Rutherford County.
Born February 22, 1943 in Polk County, he was son to the late John Basil Wilson and Kansas Haynes Wilson. Gene was a carpenter by trade but a preacher by the calling of God. He pastored several area churches which included Emmanuel Baptist Church of Rutherfordton, Faith Baptist Church of Forest City, Mountain View Baptist Church of Polk County and most recently Morningstar Baptist Church of Forest City. He loved gardening, fishing and sightseeing, but especially loved serving Lord and spending time with his family.
Those left to cherish is memory include his wife of fifty-six years, Glynes Mills Wilson; one son, Roger Dale Wilson and wife, Kimberly and one daughter, Sheila Wilson Hughes and husband, Dwight all of Polk County; three brothers, Jerry Basil Wilson, Marvin Oliver Wilson and David Oscar Wilson all of Polk County; two sisters, Evelyn Marie Packard and husband, Warren of Pennsylvania and Martha Ann Crawford of Salisbury, NC. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Jordan Hughes, Whitney Culbreth, Jacob Hughes, Caleb Wilson and three great-grandchildren, Addisyn Culbreth, Kansas Hughes and Easton Culbreth.
The funeral service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Warren Elliott officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:30 until 7:00 p.m. prior to service time at the funeral home. Burial will be private at Big Level Baptist Church in Lake Lure.
