Reverend Roger Hudgins, age 80, of Rutherfordton, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, July 22, 2018 at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills.
Born October 26, 1937 in Rutherford County, he was the son of Zeb Hudgins and Lula Gibbs Hudgins. He worked for Henson's Trucking Company for fifteen years and served as pastor and associate pastor of several local churches. He years of pastoring included Sulphur Springs Congregational Holiness Church for ten years and Faith Temple of Spindale for five years. He currently has been serving as the associate pastor of Spindale Fellowship Holiness Church for the past twenty-seven years. Roger was called "Paw Paw" by all the children of the church and everyone knew him as the "Candy Man." He also enjoyed rabbit hunting. He loved his Lord, his Family and his Church Family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded by two brothers, Hubert Hudgins and Ernest Hudgins a sister, Lucy Hodge and one great-grandson, Landon Monteith.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of fifty-seven years, Patricia Hudgins; one son, Jimmy Ray Hudgins; daughter, Renee Monteith and husband, Randy all of Rutherfordton; brother, Wesley Hudgins and wife, Lena of Rutherfordton and a sister, Betty Wilson and husband, Morris of Forest City. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Savannah Bailey, Brooke Monteith Hargett (Tyler), Jonathan Monteith; two great-grandchildren, Ryan Bailey, Hayden Bailey and his church family who loved him dearly.
The funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 26, 2018 at Spindale Fellowship Holiness Church with Reverend Leon Brown and Reverend Brian Bowlin officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Reverend Chad Sisk and Reverend Buddy Campbell conducting the graveside service. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the church.
