Richard B Lynn, Sr.

SHELBY: Richard B Lynn, Sr., 92, died Saturday January 19, 2019 at his residence. A native of Cleveland Co. he was born to the late Fred and Bonnie Huffstetler Lynn. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II and fought at the battle of Okinawa which earned him a Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He was a longtime member of Hoyle Memorial United Methodist Church and the VFW Post 4066. He loved sports of any kind, especially his Atlanta Braves and was an avid golfer. He retired from Doran Mills and worked the last twenty five years at Big Lots. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be dearly missed. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Bill and Carl Lynn. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Doris Witherspoon Lynn, of the home; son Richard B Lynn, Jr. and wife Joyce; daughter Jeanne Ellis and husband Scott; grandchildren Molly Kendrick, Stephanie Ellis-Martin and husband Alex and Bradley Ellis; great grandchildren Ryder and Gavin Kendrick, all of Shelby.

The family will receive friends from 5-6:30 PM Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 1:30 PM on Wednesday January 23, 2019 at Cleveland Memorial Park with military honors. Rev. Teresa Ramsey-Blanton, officiating.
