Ricky Jerome Addison

Ricky Jerome Addison, 54, of Asheville, NC passed away on Tuesday March 30, 2021 at the Charles George VA Medical Center in Asheville, NC. Ricky was born on January 18, 1967 in Shelby North Carolina to Kilgo Addison Sr. and Lillie Pearl Hunt Addison.

Ricky was the thirteenth and final child born to Kilgo and Lillie Pearl. Ricky started playing football and his favorite team was the Dallas Cowboys. Ricky played football at Burns High School and he graduated from Burns High in 1985.After graduation Ricky was the first male descendent of Kilgo and Lillie Pearl to join the Army.

Private Addison reported to Boot Camp on August 7, 1985 at Fort Sill Oklahoma where he learned land navigation, drill and ceremony, weapons training, physical fitness training, first aid training and basic survival techniques. Private Addison completed his Advance Individual Training (AIT) at Fort Sill as a 13Bravo, Cannon Crewmember. During this training Private Addison learned how to operate self-propelled howitzers and ammunition trucks. Private Addison was also taught how to use machine guns, grenades and rocket launchers. After AIT Private Addison was shipped off to Korea where he spent a year performing numerous field missions in Korea for the Army. After a year in Korea Private First Class Addison was shipped to Bravo Battery 3/8th Field Artillery Battalion at Fort Bragg, NC for the remainder of his time in the Army. Private First Class Addison received the Army Lapel Button, M-16 Sharpshooter Badge, Hand Grenade Expert Badge, Army Good Conduct Medal and the Overseas Service Ribbon. Private First Class Addison was honorably discharged May 1988.

After his career in the Army Ricky came back to Shelby and worked at Doran Mills, Papa Johns, Ryans, Golden Corral and Walmart. He moved to Asheville NC and received culinary training and became a Chaplain. He later joined Washington Baptist Church and served as an Usher.

In addition to his parents Ricky was preceded in death by Grandparents Will Addison, Mattie Mae Sweetenburg Addison, Marjorie Bines Addison, Charles Grady Hunt Sr and Louellar Stafford Hunt Abraham; two brothers; John Lewis Addison Sr and Charles Addison and one sister; Joyce Addison.

Ricky is survived by four brothers; Tommie Addison(Loretta) - Rocky Mount, NC; Kilgo Addison Jr.(Betty Ann) - Shelby, NC; Larry Addison-Shelby, NC and Bobby Addison - Shelby NC; Pearly Logan-Kings Mountain ,NC; Brenda Perry-Charlotte, NC; Julia Addison-Charlotte, NC, Shirlene Davis(Fred) - Wadesboro, NC and Sherry James(Anthony)-Fort Mitchell, AL. Two Uncles; Dock Addison-Shelby NC and Tommie Hunt(Tillie) Kingston, NC; One Aunt; Ella Mae Hilllman-Kingston, NC and numerous Nieces, Nephews and Cousins.

A viewing will be held on Sunday April 4, 2021 from 5-7 PM at Enloe Mortuary. Funeral Service will be held 11:00 AM Monday April 5, 2021 at Enloe Mortuary with Reverend Melvin Clark and Reverend Albert Hillman. Military honors will be rendered at Sunset Cemetery.
