Robert Alston Petty

Robert Alston Petty, 84, passed away on Saturday, August 05, 2023 while at Cleveland County Hospice.

Son to Ryburn and Lillian Floyd Petty, Robert grew up in the Newhouse area of Cleveland County. He graduated Polkville High School in 1957, and soon thereafter married Brenda Hamrick of the Beaver Dam community.

As a young man, Robert was employed by Thomas and Howard, and he remained a dedicated employee for the entirety of his career. Although he worked in town, his lunches were spent at home with Brenda and their special daughter, Cheryl. She was the apple of his eye. In retirement, Robert put on an engineer's cap and operated the City Park's miniature train to the delight of local children. He also developed a love for golf and enjoyed games with family and friends. He continued to play until the age of 83.

Robert was never to become a grandfather, but he was an uncle and a great-uncle many times over. He is especially cherished by his nieces and nephews, and he will be missed by many.

Robert is preceded in death by his daughter, Cheryl Susan Petty, his brother, Donald Petty, and brother in law, Kenny Lloyd. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Brenda Hamrick Petty, sisters in law, Heidi Lloyd and Cora Petty, and brother in law Hal Hamrick (Wanda).

Celebration of life services will be held at 2:00 pm at Springmore Baptist August 19, 2023. Visitation will be from 1:00 - 2:00 pm.
