Robert "Bob" David Maloney

Robert "Bob" David Maloney, age 89, died, Wednesday December 19, 2018 at his home. Born in Cleveland County on September 1, 1929, he was the son of the late John Lester and Doris Alice Scism Maloney. Bob was a Faithful member of First Baptist Church where he was past president of the Parlor Sunday School Class. Bob served in the United States Army during the Korean War. After he married Iris Horne Maloney, they moved to Detroit Michigan where he worked for the Ford Manufacturing. When he returned to Shelby, Bob got a job at the Waldensian Bakery as a salesman and was affectionately known as the "Breadman" on his route in Kings Mountain. Bob enjoyed playing golf and was a member of the Riverbend Golf Club and the Cleveland County Senior Golfers. He played Gin Rummy daily at the Senior Center, loved the Atlanta Braves and Carolina Basketball. He also enjoyed watching old Westerns. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Iris Horne Maloney; six brothers, Clyde, Elbert, Carroll, Boyd, Paul, and J.W. and four sisters, Elsie, Edit, Doris, and Pat.

Robert is survived by a daughter, Pam Helms and husband Wayne of Shelby; grandson, Alex Helms and girlfriend, Stephanie Culbertson of Linville; sisters-in-law Jessie Hudson, Barbara Maloney, Marie Horne, Jenny Childers; brother-in-law; Garnie Horne; and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral service will be held on Monday, January 7, 2019 at 2:00 at the Webb Chapel of First Baptist Church with Rev. Tony Tench officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the Ladies Parlor.
