Robert "Bob" William Conlon

Robert "Bob" William Conlon, 87, entered his heavenly home Monday, April 27, 2026 surrounded by his wife and family. Born in Binghamton, New York on October 6, 1938, he was the son of the late William Conlon and Kathryn Cadden Conlon.

Bob was a proud patriot who deeply loved his country. He honorably served two years in the United States Army at Fort Hood in the division aptly known as "Hell on Wheels". For all those who knew Bob, you knew he was extremely proud of his service to his country.

A gifted engineer and natural problem-solver, Bob built a successful 32-year career with IBM. Known as a true "fixer," there was little he couldn't fix or figure out and retired as a consultant there at the age of 51.

Bob was married to his loving wife Peggy for 33 wonderful years. Together they shared a life filled with laughter, music and a lot of dancing. After moving south from New York, Bob embraced shag dancing and he and Peggy enjoyed delighting friends and family by showing off their moves at any event that had beach music. Both were members of Revelers Dance Club for 33 years where Bob served in multiple capacities.

Bob loved the outdoors and attending to his yard both at their former Moss Lake home and Birdie Lane in Shelby. He was known for his beautiful "Bob Conlon" gardenias, which he generously shared with family and friends. For years Bob was an accomplished athlete and an avid runner, running multiple marathons and proudly qualifying for the esteemed Boston Marathon. In true "Bob" fashion, he celebrated his 50th birthday by walking 50 miles around Lake Norman. Among Bob's favorite athletic endeavors was when he played for the "North" in the infamous "North vs South" softball games in Shelby with the best of friends.

Bob never met a stranger. He was known for his warm handshake, welcoming smile and his signature greeting, "How we doin'?". Bob was a natural entertainer, his Irish heritage shining through in his gift for storytelling - he was the ultimate prankster, always ready with a joke and a laugh.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Kathryn and William Conlon; his grandson, Austin Coffman; and his sisters, Judi Callahan and Rita Trovalli.

He is survived by his wife Peggy; his sister, Eileen Mlynarczyk; his children, Michele Oswald (Mark), Bob Jr. (Mary), Tim (Alecia); his stepchildren, Fred Rosenkampff (Missy), Brad Rosenkampff, Kristin Long (Finlay); and his nephew Michael Trovalli. "Daddy" Bob was blessed with 17 grandchildren and 5 great- grandchildren, whom he adored and took great pride in watching them in all their endeavors through the years.

Bob's life was marked by love, laughter, and an unwavering appreciation for the people around him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

A Celebration of Life with Military Honors will be held at 4:00 PM Saturday, May 2, 2026, in the Chapel of Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home with Pastor David Lee officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations made be made to Via Health Partners in honor of the wonderful Hospice Care he received from Joanie Mabry and team over the past several months.
