Robert J. Conner
Robert J. Conner, age 80, of East Church Street, Bostic, passed away Friday, June 23, 2017 at his residence.
Born December 5, 1936 in Rutherford County, he was a son to the late Jay Conner and Myrtle Lane. As a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Robert served three tours of duty in the Vietnam War. He retired from the military after twenty-three years of service. Robert also worked for U.S. Postal Service at the Forest City branch for eleven years. He was a faithful member of the Second Baptist Church of Rutherfordton and served as a Sunday school teacher and on the communion and kitchen committees. He was a collector of golf balls and jars and enjoyed getting bargains at thrift stores. Robert also loved animals.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Major Conner.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of twenty-five years, Rose Goode Conner; two children, Mandy Conner and Bobby Dallas both of England; three sisters, Marjorie Dobbins and husband, Norris of Rutherfordton, Shirley Whisnant of Bostic and Carolyn Lancaster of Spindale. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Holly Taylor, Vickie Conner and a host of nieces and nephews which includes Todd Wiles of Ellenboro.
The funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 29, 2017 at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Keith Stephenson officiating. Interment will follow in Green River Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors rendered by the Rutherford County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.
