Robert Whitworth, age 74, died Thursday, May 10, 2018 at Hospice Wendover. Born in Cleveland County on January 11, 1944, he was the son of the late Carl Whitworth and wife Ottie Newton Whitworth. He served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam during the Vietnam war. Robert retired as the Lead Electrical Technician for Machine Builders and Design of Shelby. In addition to his parents Robert was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years Doris Mull Whitworth.

Robert is survived by his daughter, Kelly McSwain and husband Doyle of Shelby; two grand- children, Whitney Harbison and husband Clint of Morganton and Clayton McSwain of Shelby and one great-grandson, Colt Harbison; as well as three sisters, Hilda Queen and late husband Garland of Gaffney, SC, Lana McCurry and late husband Lee of Marion and Kathy Lanier and husband Terry of Shelby.

Funeral service will be held 3pm on Monday May 14, 2018 in the Chapel of Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory, with Rev. Sarah Underwood officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2pm until 3pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service at Elizabeth Baptist Church with military honors.
