Cherryville - Mr. Roger E. Poplin, 87, passed away on Friday, August 21, 2026 at CaroMont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia.

Roger was born on April 13, 1939 in Stanly County, NC a son of the late Patrick H. Poplin and Pearl Curlee Poplin. He was retired as a self employed draftsman. Roger was a former member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Cherryville where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. Currently he was a member of First Baptist Church in Cherryville where he served as a former deacon, Sunday school teacher and also helped with God's Planned Harvest. Roger was instrumental in helping form Outdoor Blessings and helped teach a Sunday school class at The Great Outdoors in Cherryville each Sunday morning. He was an avid hunter and loved the outdoors. Roger served his country in the United States Army and was a member of Cherryville American Legion Post 100.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Nelda Moss and her husband Farrell.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Brenda Beam Poplin of the home; a daughter, Crystal Landers and husband, Toby of Richland, Washington; a son, Curtis Poplin and wife Tracy of Belmont; six grandchildren, Micah Landers, Madeline Poplin, Benjamin Landers, Luke Poplin, Zachary Landers and Wade Poplin; a sister, Patsy Kay Fesperman and husband David of Mobile, Alabama.

The family will receive friends from 11:45AM to 12:45PM on Saturday, August 29, 2026 at First Baptist Church in Cherryville and at other times the family will be at the home.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00PM on Saturday, August 29, 2026 at First Baptist Church with Pastor Tom Kinman and Pastor Jhoan Alfaro officiating.

Burial will follow the service at the City Memorial Cemetery in Cherryville with Military Honors provided by Cherryville American Legion Post 100 honor guard.
