Roger Ray Grayson

Roger Ray Grayson, of Shelby, North Carolina, born August 26, 1936, peacefully went to be with his Lord and Savior on January 13, 2026.

He was the beloved son of the late Forrest and Mary Camp Grayson. Roger was a faithful and active member of Bethel Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, usher, and member of the media and security teams. He also volunteered with the Shelby Boys' Club, served as a Pop Warner youth football team leader, Royal Ambassador leader, and participated in several church softball teams.

Roger was an avid vegetable gardener and a talented photographer for his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a devoted witness for the Lord and particularly enjoyed sharing his faith by passing out gospel tracts.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Roger graduated from Shelby High School and Shelby Business College. He worked as Planning Manager for J.P. Stevens & Co., the Doran Group, Tilmar Textiles, and Ansley Inc., and later retired as a part-time employee of Machine Builders & Design Inc., all of Shelby, NC.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Kathryn Huskey Grayson; daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Scott Jenkins; son and daughter-in-law, Eric and Tiffanie Grayson, all of Boiling Springs, NC. His grandchildren include Blaire Jenkins Langa (Thomas), Walt J. Grayson, Grayson Jenkins, and Allie Grayson Martin (Chase), along with three great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by step-grandchildren, Alex Chapman and family, and Trinity Martin and family. He is also survived by brothers-in-law, Tom Huskey (Janet) and Charlie Noggle, and sisters-in-law, Carol Grayson and Carolyn Grayson Owens.

Roger was preceded in death by his sisters, Catherine Tillman (Edwin), Peggy Gantt (Bill), Patsy Gorman (Wayne), and Linda Noggle; brothers, Jack Grayson and Ronnie Grayson; sisters-in-law, Mary Mussman (Fred), June Lanier (Shuford), and Laura Hicks (Avery); and brother-in-law, Bill Huskey (Thelma).

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, January 19, 2026 at Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Tim Sims officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service in the church sanctuary. Interment will follow in the Sunset Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Bethel Baptist Church, Shelby, NC, or Via Health Partners (Hospice of Shelby, NC).

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to his devoted caregivers - Pat Nichols, Amber Bowen, Wendy Logue, Amanda Sherbert, Chloe Gillis - and the compassionate hospice nurses and staff who cared for Roger during his illness.
