Ronell Lester Owensby

Ronell Lester Owensby, 86, of Lakewood Acres Drive, Gaffney, passed away
Monday, May 13, 2019 at Atrium Health - Cleveland.

Ronell is the son of the late Rev. Jessie Owensby and mother Mrs. Onnie
Brown Owensby. He was preceded in death by his Dad and Mother and oldest
daughter, Ronetta Owensby Lackey. Ronell has said he has been blessed with
the most wonderful family anyone could have. He leaves behind his dear
wife, Ann Pack, his youngest daughter, Jenny Owensby Warren and her husband,
Mike Warren and their two sons, Hunter and Grant Warren. Two additional
grandchildren of Ronell and Ann are Taylor Lackey, Savannah Lackey Jones and
husband, Dustin Jones and their two children, Tucker and Ryker. He also
leaves behind many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews.

Rev. Owensby is a graduate of Flat Rock High School, Flat Rock, NC, Mars
Hill Junior College, Carson-Newman Christian University, Southeastern
Baptist Theological Seminary along with additional studies. He served as
Trustee at Carson-Newman Christian University for five years.

Rev. Owensby was ordained to the Gospel Ministry at East Flat Rock Baptist
Church on August 17, 1955. His first pastorate was Rocks Springs Baptist
Church in Cherokee, NC. After entering and graduating from seminary he and
his wife, Ann, served a number of churches in Virginia with the last being
Mount Hermon Baptist Church in Danville, VA. At this point Ronell and Ann
accepted the call to serve as International Missionaries under the
International Mission Board of SBC. Following language studies in Costa Rica
and career assignment in Venezuela they served under the Board's appointment
for six years. Upon returning on furlough they were called to the First
Baptist Church of Cowpens, SC, where they served for seventeen years.
Afterwards they accepted a call to the First Baptist Church of Rogersville,
TN where they served for eleven years until retirement in 1999. After
retirement he served as Interim Pastor at a number of churches in N.C. and
S.C.

The visitation will be 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM, Thursday, May 16 at Cherokee
Creek Baptist Church, 501 Buck Shoals Road, Gaffney, SC 29341.

The funeral service will be 5:00 PM, Thursday, May 16 at Cherokee Creek
Baptist Church with Rev. Bob Rogers, Dr. Terry Duvall and Rev. Aubrey Floyd
officiating.

A graveside service will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, May 18 at Polkville Baptist
Church Cemetery, 4214 Polkville Road, Polkville, NC 28136 with Rev. Jeremy
Peeler and Rev. Wesley Smith officiating. The family will receive friends
following the service in the fellowship building.

Memorials may be made to the Lottie Moon Christmas offering, c/o Baptist
State Convention of NC, 205 Convention Drive, Cary, NC 27511.
