Roy Gene Farris, age 86, formerly of Bess Town Rd. passed away Sunday, January 13, 2019 at Carolina Care Health and Rehabilitation. He was born April 2, 1932 in Gaston County to the late Ervin and Jennie Lee Carpenter Farris. He was formerly a member of Hephzibah Presbyterian Church and currently a member of Mt. Beulah Baptist Church. Roy proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was employed for many years at Westvaco and retired from Sherrill Industries. Roy enjoyed camping, fishing, and metal detecting. He also loved gardening and being outdoors. He cherished spending time with his family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Rebecca Jean Mathis; and a sister, Betty Jane Farris.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Jean McSwain Farris; daughter, Wanda Jean Farris Murphy and husband, Charles of Bessemer City; sons, Kenneth Gene Farris and wife, Donna of High Shoals and Torben Gene Farris of Gastonia; grandchildren, Michael Fields, Michelle Fields, Darie Mathis, Charles Murphy, Terran Farris, and Lindsey Farris; great grandchildren, Raelyne Wright, Tylan Ray, and Isaiah Ray; and brothers, Ray Farris and Bobby Farris.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at 3:00 PM at Mt. Beulah Baptist Church with Rev. Fain Farmer officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors by Cherryville American Legion Post #100. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 1:30 to 2:45 PM prior to the service in the church.
