Roy Lee Wellmon, 77, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 8, 2024 at Wendover Hospice House in Shelby.

Roy was born in Cleveland County on March 9, 1946 the son of the late Billy Dwight Wellmon and Louise Lee Wellmon. Roy dedicated numerous years to the Shelby City Fire Department and served as the Public Works Director for the City of Shelby. Beyond his professional contributions, Roy cherished moments exploring new places while camping and will be remembered for his passion for crafting beautiful jewelry using gemstones he mined for, as well as his beloved cats.

Roy is survived by his wife of 30 years Doris Wellmon, and daughter, Melia Greene Lilly (Richard) son, Jeff Canipe (Kelly) as well as, five grandchildren, Tucker Greene, Kaitlyn Canipe, Lexie Greene, Abby Canipe and Wyatt Canipe. Also left to cherish his memory is his great granddaughter, Vivian Greene.

In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his honor to VIA Health Partners: 951 Wendover Heights Dr. Shelby, NC 28150.

To honor the life of Mr. Wellmon, the family will hold services privately.
