Roy Monroe Greene, age 85, passed away Friday December 24, 2021 surrounded by his family. Born in Cleveland County on July 21, 1936, he was the son of the late Yates Lee and Mary Lois Wilson Greene. In addition to his parents, Roy is preceded in death by his brothers, Yates Lee Greene, Jr. and Joseph Greene, his sister, Mary Greene Wilson, brother-in-laws, Walter Kale, Percy Kale, Jr. and Jonny A. Swink. Roy served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict from 1959-1961. He will be remembered as a hard-working family man who had a tender heart for his boys, especially his great grandson. A lifelong member of Double Springs Baptist Church, Roy was an active in his church and Sunday School Class.

Roy is survived by his wife 63 years Mary Ann Kale Greene, son Roy Greene, Jr. (Sandra) of Lattimore, NC., Roy's grandsons, Ethan Lee Greene (Brooke) of Shelby, N.C., Cody Greene (Charneice Crocker) of Gastonia, NC and a great-grandson, Braxton Isaiah Greene of Shelby, NC. Roy is also survived by his step-grandson, Dalton Cooper of Lattimore, N.C., a sister-in-law, Carolyn Kale Swink of Shelby, N.C., his niece, Kim Brantley (B.J.) of Columbia, SC. Also left to cherish his memory, are his nephews, Johnny Swink (Kim), of Polkville, NC, Curtis "Wormy" Swink of Shelby, N.C. and his cousin, Hilda Hawkins (Ron) of Shelby, N.C.

Graveside service with full military honors will be held 2:00pm Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at the Cemetery of Double Springs Baptist Church with Stephen Sain offering words of encouragements for those in attendance. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00 pm-2:00 pm at the graveside.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Double Springs Baptist Church Choir. Fund: 1130 Double Springs Church Rd Shelby, NC 28150.
