Ruby Strawser

On Saturday, January 23, 2021, Ruby Strawser, loving mother and grandmother, made her way to her new eternal home.

Her 84 years were easily disguised by her active lifestyle and firecracker spirit. Ruby, daughter of Evan & Gladys Wright, was born at her parents' home in Vale. She lived most of her adult life in a home she and her husband of 54 years, Graydon Strawser, built right beside her birthplace before he passed in 2010. Ruby & "Slim" proudly provided a first generation college experience for all 3 of their children at Davidson College.

Ruby kept the highway warm with trips to enhance her children's gifts with voice, piano, organ, guitar, tennis, baseball and even clogging lessons. When she was not running with her kids, she was the pre-Amazon delivery system/bookkeeper/organizer for her husband's business, Strawser's Garage & Auto Parts.

Ruby loved her church, Providence Baptist, and considered its members part of her extended family. She loved singing in their choir, attending Bible studies and participating in various service projects. She grew up picking cotton on her father's farm and gardening never quite left her system. She planted, watered, covered and nurtured each plant as if it were a child. The fruits (and veggies) of her labors were shared widely throughout her community.

But even more than her garden, she loved her family. She is survived by her three children, their spouses and 7 grandchildren...Teresa & Mike Sharp and their sons, David and Nathan of Mooresville; Todd & Amy Strawser and their children, Zachary, Rachel & Lindsay of Charlotte; and Kim & George Kurani and their children, Caroline & James of Charlotte. She is also survived by three brothers, Hugh Wright of Vale, Jack Wright of Mooresville, and Fred Wright of Shelby. She leaves each of us with that Ruby spark of tireless energy and is lovingly nicknamed our Energizer Bunny.

Due to Covid restrictions and the family's wishes for all to remain healthy, the celebration of life service will be limited to family. Stamey-Tysinger Funeral Home of Fallston will be caring for her burial. Graveside service will be open to anyone who would like to attend at Providence Baptist, 7618 Providence Church Road, Hickory on Tuesday, January 26th at 4:00. The family requests that masks be worn by those attending. In lieu of flowers, Ruby wanted donations to be made in her memory to the Providence Church Baptist Building Fund.
