Ruth Elaine Daves Whitaker, age 90, went to be with the Lord Friday evening, December 14, 2018, six days after her 90th birthday celebration. Born in Cleveland County on December 4, 1928, she was the daughter of the late James Thomas and Lala Hamrick Daves. She was treasured dearly by her family and those who knew her. Elaine was a member of Sandy Plains Baptist Church. Her career was truck driving alongside her husband Bob Whitaker of 57 years. She also spent her life taking care of her family. Elaine was known for her home cooking. Her biscuits and gravy were unmatched. In addition to her parents, Elaine is preceded in death by her husband Bob Whitaker; a son, Robert Whitaker and an infant son, Sherman Dean.

Elaine leaves behind her two daughters, Wanda Rains and husband Steve of Blacksburg SC. Cathy Whitaker of Brevard; and a son, Mike Whitaker and wife Linda of Shelby; Her joys in life were her 12 grandchildren and her 12 great grandchildren. Mawmaw, you will forever be held close to our hearts. We will love you always.

Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Sandy Plains Baptist Church with Rev. Chase Robinson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends an hour before the service from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm in the Luna Whitaker Fellowship Hall, and other times at the home of a granddaughter, Lisa Wray 608 Grace Street Shelby.
