Ruth Elizabeth Ruby Schweppe
Mrs. Ruth Elizabeth Ruby Schweppe died peacefully on February 15, 2013 at Southminister Retirement Community in Charlotte. The youngest of four children born to Willis and Della Ruby and the cherished wife of the late Jack Schweppe, she was born in Prospect PA on April 10, 1919 and was raised in Butler PA. The family moved to Shelby in 1959 where she resided until her move to Southminister in 2005.
Ruth was an enthusiastic world traveler and a founder of the Friendship Force Chapter in Shelby. She loved people and enjoyed entertaining and spending time with her friends. Ruth was a member and former President of the Junior Charity League of Shelby, served on the board of the Florence Crittendon Home in Charlotte and was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She received the President’s Award from The Boys and Girls Club for her many years of volunteer service. She attended Arcadia College and was a devoted member of Shelby Presbyterian Church. “Mama Ruth” , as she was affectionately known by her grandchildren, was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at Southminister for their exceptional care and to her devoted Shelby friend and caregiver, Willen Griffin. In addition to her parents and husband, Ruth was preceded in death by her son, David McClain Schweppe; two sisters and one brother.
Ruth is survived by three children, John Vogeley Schweppe, Jr. and wife Stuart of Shelby, Bill Schweppe and wife Martha of Charlotte and Sally Schweppe-DePaolo and husband Chuck of  Asheville; treasured grandchildren,  David Schweppe, II  and wife Becca, John Schweppe, III and wife Elizabeth of Shelby, Mark Schweppe and wife Ann, of Winston-Salem, Sarah and Mac Schweppe of Charlotte, Jack, Sarah, and Stuart DePaolo of Asheville and great grandchildren, Ben, Margaret, Charlie, Daniel, Anna, and Jack Schweppe.
Graveside service will be held on Sunday February 17, 2013 at 3:00pm at Sunset Cemetery with Dr. Luke Harkey officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. \
