Sam Finney

Sam Finney, 66, of 2541 Shoal Creek Church Rd. Shelby, NC passed away on Sunday, August 1, 2021 at Atrium Health- Cleveland in Shelby.

He was born on February 27, 1955 in Cleveland County, NC to the late Thomas "Tommy" Finney and the late Hattie Mae Johnson Finney Ross (Darvin). His education included him attending Douglas School, and he graduated from Burns High School in 1974.

Upon graduation from Burns High School, Sam entered the workforce at Doran Mills. He worked at Doran Mills until the plant closed, a total of 27 years. After the plant closed he worked at Magnolia Finishings for 9 years.

Sam enjoyed watching western and military films. He was a die hard Tar Heel fan, and Washington Football Team fan. In his free time, he enjoyed bowling and spending quality time with friends and family. He was a faithful member of Shoal Creek Baptist Church where he served as trustee, usher, member of the all male choir, and van driver.

In addition to his parents, Sam was preceded in death by one brother, Larry Finney. He leaves to cherish loving memories wife of 42 years, Linda "Lindt" Williamson Finney, his three children, Brandon Finney, LaTonya Finney, and LaSonya Finney all of Shelby, NC; four brothers, Willie James (Patricia) Finney, Henry Kenneth Finney, Thomas Finney, Jr., and Jeremiah Finney, all of Shelby, NC; two sisters, Lola (Michael) Surratt of Lawndale, NC, and Brenda (Danny) Roberts of Shelby, NC; one uncle, Willis Finney of Philadelphia, PA; two god-grandchildren, Elijah Christopher and Gianna Lindsay; special friends of Sam and Linda, Lisa Oglesby and Edna Willis; Sam and Linda's godmother, Mother Earlene Youngblood; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives including his inlaws the Williamson Family and friends.

The funeral service for Mr. Finney will be held on Monday, August 9, 2021 at 2:30 PM at Shoal Creek Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until 2:30 PM at the church.
