Sandy Plains Baptist Church Serves Up Tasty BBQ
Pastor Garin Hill
Maxine Hembree and sister Joyce Derrick with her husband Randy enjoy the “all you can eat” ole timey pit cooked barbecue pork and chicken dinner at the annual Sandy Plains Baptist Church Barbecue. The ladies have been attending the barbecue for over 30 years and said  “we just wouldn’t miss it!”  Both ladies both worked in the local livermush plants for 22 years. Randy said: “I’ll probably be going back for some more barbecue”.
Rev. Garin Hill, Sandy Plains Pastor for the past six years, kept up with events in his golf cart. At the time we saw him, they had already sold 1,000 “to go - stay in your car deliveries”. Meanwhile, at the sit down pavilion, hundreds came to enjoy the all you can eat barbecue. Cooking, chopping, and serving hot food kept the volunteers very busy. As always, people came from all over two counties. If you know anything about Cleveland County, you are aware that the New House area is known for both Jenkins and Mack’s livermush.  It’s livermush country! However, once a year it’s all about the Sandy Plains Baptist barbecue.
