Sara Elizabeth Spangler Greene

Sara Elizabeth Spangler Greene, 85, of Greene Farm Road of Shelby, NC, passed away on Sunday, August 13, 2023 at home surrounded by her family.

Born in Cleveland County on September 14, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Eubert Bynum and Edith Beam Spangler. Mama was a graduate of Gardner Webb College and worked at First National Bank in Shelby before becoming a homemaker and farmer's wife to Albert R. Greene. They lived their entire married life on Greene Farm Road. As a farmer's wife, she worked along side Daddy, catching loads of silage in a dump truck, holding her own in the field. In addition to helping Daddy on the farm, she also made sure our family ate meals together at the table waiting until Daddy came in from milking the cows. She enjoyed canning and freezing vegetables from the garden to be enjoyed all year long. She grew up attending Double Shoals Baptist Church but after marrying Daddy, she quickly joined Double Springs Baptist Church, where she was a faithful member and servant of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She instilled her love of Christ and family into her children always organizing and planning family gatherings, including lunch every Sunday, weekend trips to Green River, pumpkin carvings, reunions, and game nights. She turned an old family farmhouse, known as The Stockton House, into a place of fellowship and ministry for family and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Albert Reynolds Greene; father-in-law and mother-in-law, A.W. and Corene Grigg Greene, two sisters and brothers-in-law, Eloise and Hoyle Wright, Shirley and Phillip Greene; brother and sister-in-law, Gene and Helen Spangler; two brothers-in-law, Gilbert Greene and wife Nancy, and Paul Reichle, one sister-in-law, Shirley "B" Fitch Greene, one beloved niece, Sheila Wright Whisnant; and one beloved son-in-law, James Timothy "Tim" Cabaniss.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy and Eddie Bridges, and Susan and Todd Turner; two sons and daughters-in-law, Scott and Lynn Greene, and Steve and Lori Greene and twelve grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth Cabaniss Johnson and husband, Brandon, Jim Cabaniss, and wife, Amber, Amanda Bridges Carpenter, John Bridges and wife, Crystal, Timothy Turner, Sara Turner Cronan and husband, Noah, Mackenzie Greene, Ethan Greene, Tucker Greene and wife, Julia, Lexie Greene, Eli Roberts, and Andi Ruth Roberts; eleven great grandchildren, Colton Johnson, Ella Johnson, Kobe Cabaniss, Jacob Cabaniss, Cheyenne Carpenter, Savannah Carpenter, Dakota Carpenter, Mason Carpenter, Carter Bridges, Weston Bridges, and Vivian Greene; three brothers-in-law, Bobby Greene, Randall Greene and wife, Glenda, Henry Greene and wife, Susan, one sister-in-law, June Carol Reichle, many beloved nieces and nephews; and four special caregivers, Jessica Bumgardner, Nisha McCraw, Catherine Hord, and Chelsea Sorrells.
