Sarah Caroline "Sis" Blanton Dedmon

Sarah Caroline "Sis" Blanton Dedmon moved to a higher plane on March 27,2023. She was born March 21, 1922 in Lattimore, NC. Her parents were John Samuel and Garva Ella Harrill Blanton. Sarah graduated from Lattimore High School in 1939, and attended Boiling Springs Jr. College (now Gardner Webb University) from 1939-1941. During World War II, she joined the U.S. Signal Corps. She was with a civilian group at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey and later transferred to Detroit, Michigan. She later moved to Baltimore, Maryland to be closer to home. In Baltimore she worked at Glen L. Martin where she processed noise suppressors for military jeeps. After the war, she graduated from Appalachian State Teachers' College (Now Appalachian State University) with a teaching degree and taught in the Hickory, Kings Mountain and Shelby school systems for 32 years.

Sarah is survived by three children, Lucretia Caroline (partner, Linda Mazzie), Thomas Hal Dedmon Jr., and James Theodore Dedmon (wife, Karen Ecksein Dedmon). Also left to cherish her memory are grandchildren, Vigilance, James Michael, Anna Marie Dedmon and many nieces and nephews.

Sarah is preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Thomas Hal Dedmon; her parents, John Samuel and Garva Harrill Blanton; her 2 sisters, Beatrix Blanton Ramey (husband, Arnold Ramey) and Annette Blanton Cline (husband, T. Ray Cline); and 5 brothers, Jessie Miles Blanton (died in infancy), John Samuel Blanton Jr. (wife, Louise Brown Blanton), Kennedy Hewitt Blanton (wife, Elizabeth "Lib" Cabaniss Blanton), Harrill Lee "Bus" Blanton (wife, Evelyn Gold Blanton), and Robert Eugene Blanton.

She was an active member of Ross Grove Baptist Church and the Euzelian Sunday School Class. She sang alto in the choir and was in Women's Missionary Union, taught children's Sunday school classes, as well as youth and adult classes. Sarah also participated in Vacation Bible School, was the director of Friendly Hearts senior activity group and served on many other committees. She was a member of the North Carolina Association of Educators and Retired Teachers Association.

The family would like to thank her caregivers: Ruth Brooks, Gina Collins, Tabitha Morris and Joan Hudson. They will be forever grateful, for the team of hospice workers who provided amazing service to Sarah and her family.

A celebration of life will be held at Ross Grove Baptist Church on Sunday, April 2, 2023 at 2 PM, followed by a receiving of friends.
