Blacksburg - Sean Michael Johnson, 55, of Blacksburg , SC, passed away on Labor Day, September 7, 2026.

Born November 12, 1970, in Richmond, VA, Sean was the eldest child of Thomas Kevin Johnson and Susan Mallory Johnson. He grew up in Gloversville, NY, and Manchester, MO, before enlisting in the United States Navy. During his service, Sean was stationed aboard the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower during Operation Desert Storm. He took deep pride in his military service and the experiences it gave him. During those years, he developed a lasting love of the water and later enjoyed canoeing and boating whenever he had the opportunity.

After his military service, Sean moved to be near his family in Spring, Texas, where he worked at airports and moving companies. He later lived in Charlotte, NC, and Marietta, GA, while working over-the-road driving jobs. Eventually, Sean made his home in Blacksburg, SC, where he lived for the remainder of his life. Sean had a lively spirit and a wonderful sense of humor. He was fun to be around and had a way of making people laugh. He was charming, thoughtful, and deeply kind. He brought a special energy to the lives of those around him, and his family and friends will miss his laughter, his warmth, and the fun he brought wherever he went.

Sean had a big heart for dogs. His dog Rocky was his best friend and companion for many years. He also helped rescue Finn, who became a beloved member of his parents' family, and in more recent years he shared his life with his dog, Layla.

Music was another important part of Sean's life. He loved finding songs that spoke to him and sharing them with the people he cared about. He had a gift for setting the mood with music and loved crafting the right soundtrack for the moment. For those who loved him, the songs he shared will remain a lasting connection to him.

In the last year of his life, Sean reconnected with his Catholic roots. His faith became an important part of his life as he sought a deeper connection to his upbringing and a renewed sense of purpose. Above all, Sean cherished his family. He loved spending time with his nieces and was a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend. He brought laughter, warmth, and a sense of adventure to his family, and they will miss the joy he brought into their lives.

Sean is survived by his parents, Thomas Kevin Johnson and Susan Mallory Johnson of Hendersonville, NC; his brother, Patrick Johnson, of Syracuse, NY, Patrick's wife, Nonnie Lim, and their daughter, Maeve Johnson; and his sister, Molly Johnson, of Hendersonville, NC, Molly's husband, Coby Wellshear, and their daughter, Cara Wellshear.

A proud Navy veteran, a loyal family man, Sean will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

A memorial service for Sean will be held at a future date. Details will be shared with family and friends when arrangements have been made.
