'Seeds to Silverware' set for Sept. 30

If you enjoy fine locally produced foods, love to dine outdoors and want to support your local community, the Uptown Shelby Association (USA) is offering you a chance to do all three at one time. Once again this year, the USA is collaborating with local chefs and farmers to host a farm-to-table dinner in Uptown Shelby. "Seeds to Silverware," as the event is called, will be held at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 30, 2017, at the City Pavilion in Uptown Shelby (126 W. Marion St.).
"The menu for the evening highlights many of the wonderful ingredients that are currently at the peak of freshness in North Carolina," says Tricia Woodland, USA spokesperson. "The Uptown Shelby Association receives no state funding, so community support and events like 'Seeds to Silverware' are important to the long-term success of the organization."
The evening will begin with wine, locally brewed beer from Newgrass Brewing Company and Old North Shrub (a non-alcoholic, vinegar-based beverage made of local herbs and fruits) from the Chef's Farmer. Hors d'oeuvres will be served from 6-7 p.m., and a four-course dinner will follow.
"The entire menu features local ingredients and our talented local chefs," says Woodland. "This year, we have new chefs and restauranteurs, including Wes Allen from Newgrass Brewing Company, Brian Fletcher from Deer Valley Farm and Tony Izzi from 'Que Barbeque."
Returning chefs include Jim Sander from Pleasant City Wood Fired Grille, Jeanette Sun from Ni Fen's Bistro and Kitchen, Chad Hutcheson and Loyd Helton from The String Bean, James Swofford from The Chef's Farmer, and Madison and Justin Webber from J-Bird's Deli & Ale.
Tickets are on sale now for $70 per person, which includes hors d'oeuvres, a four-course meal, two drinks and a gift from the anchor sponsor. Seating is limited. Reservations can be made at the Uptown Shelby Association office, 211 S. Trade St. in Shelby, from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday - Friday, or you can pay online at www.seedstosilverware.com.
