Senior Center to sponsor car show, flea market

Great bargains, fancy cars and handmade crafts will all be part of the Neal Senior Center's Sixth Annual Car Show & Indoor/Outdoor Flea Market, set for Saturday, Oct. 26, 2019. All proceeds from the events will benefit the Meals on Wheels program along with other Council on Aging programs and services.
These events have proved to be very popular with car enthusiasts as well as those who enjoy hunting for bargains.
"We should have a wonderful variety of cars for the car show," says Heather Ledbetter, Neal Center nutrition coordinator. "Numerous hot rods, vintage cars, specialty cars and trucks, and even some race cars will be part of the show."
The car show portion of the event will take place from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. in the Senior Center parking lot. Judging will take place at 11 a.m., and the awards ceremony will begin at 1:30 p.m. The car entry fee is $12. Those interested in participating should contact Ledbetter at 704-481-7390.
For bargain hunters, the flea market will also be open from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m.
"We have more than 15 vendors registered, covering a wide variety of crafts, second-hand items and all kinds of knickknacks," says Linda Geter, Neal Center housing director. Vendors can rent table space for $12 per table. Anyone wanting to rent a vendor table should contact Geter at 704-481-7384.
In addition to the car show and flea market, the Senior Center will also sponsor a 50/50 drawing with a variety of prizes.
The center will offer food for purchase from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Hot dogs, beans, chips and homemade desserts are among the offerings. A "Hungry Man" plate special will also be available.
Geter says that donations for the Car Show/Flea Market would be appreciated.
"To help make this a successful event we are asking for donations of many different items: packages of hot dogs and hot dog buns, homemade desserts, disposable cups, plastic plates, paper towels and door prizes," she says. "And we can always use monetary donations, as well."
The Neal Senior Center is located at 100 T. R. Harris Drive in Shelby. Since the car show will be in the center parking lot, attendees should plan to park across the street at Healthy@Home or in the Ross Grove Church parking lot.
