Sharks Compete In Two State Championship Meets
Senior Champs – Riley Brock, Matt Campbell, Coach Dave Messenger, Ann Huston, Annie Shirk, Anne Taylor, Davis Kennedy, and Parker Campbell.
Last weekend, the Sharks Aquatic Club competed in the North Carolina Swimming Short Course Senior Championship meet held in Cary, NC.  Former Head Coach, Dave Messenger, returned to the pool deck to guide the Sharks to a successful weekend of swimming.  “We had a great weekend, and had a lot of fun.  It was good seeing the Sharks swim fast again!” said Coach Messenger. The sharks had 7 senior swimmers with the necessary qualifying times for the meet.  Junior National qualifier Parker Campbell finished 12th in the state in the 100 yard butterfly (52.56).  Annie Shirk finished with two top 25 finishes.  Her best swim came in the 100 yard butterfly (1:00.10), finishing 20th in the state.  Shirk also placed 23rd in the 50 freestyle (25.30). Ann Huston also scored a top 25 swim in the 100 yard butterfly (1:00.65), placing 22nd. Riley Brock finished 13th in the state in the 50 yard freestyle (21.88) and 21st in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:01.17). Matthew Campbell and Davis Kennedy posted two best times each, both placing in the top 40 of the state.
The previous weekend, two of the age group Sharks braved the winter weather and traveled to Greensboro to compete in the North Carolina Swimming Age Group Championship Meet.  Madelyn Martelle posted five top 16 finishes with four best times, including a sectional cut time in 100 yard breaststroke (1:08.14).  Kaitlyn Moss also posted two best times.
This weekend, the Sharks will travel to Isothermal Community College in Rutherford County to compete in the Blue Ridge Swim League.  Additionally, Sharks with qualifying times will be competing in the Eastern Section of the Southern Zone (ESSZ) Speedo Championship Series in Charlotte, NC, later in March. Sharks Aquatic Club is a competitive swim team based in Shelby and is composed of swimmers from Cleveland, Rutherford, and Watauga Counties.   The team is a parent-run and professionally coached 501(c)3 non-profit organization.  If you are interested in joining the Sharks, or becoming a team sponsor, you can visit their website at www.SharksAquaticClub.com, or email at Info@SharksAquaticClub.com.
